 Steps to Credentialing as a Workshop Trainer

Pre-requisite

Attend a 2-day Person Centered Thinking training AND put your learning to immediate practice.

Stage 1 – Agreement & Practices

Enter in agreement with Mentor Trainer to embark on the credentialing process. Document practices

Stage 2 – Preparing to Train

Observe PCT© Training

Trainer Candidates can work in pairs. Talk with your Mentor about working with a Co-Trainer Candidate

Meet with Mentor to prepare for your first Training demonstration

Self-study of materials, notes and logistics

Stage 3 – Practice

Deliver PCT© Training with Mentor Trainer OR with another Trainer Candidate. ” Candidates are required to deliver the training TWO times (more may be required based on level of competence and readiness)

Meet with Mentor Trainer (in person or by phone/email) to review and evaluate your progress.

 More About The Learning Community for Person Centered Practices

The Learning Community for Person Centered Practices (TLCPCP) is a network of practitioners whose work includes:

  • Developing and disseminating training materials on best practice in helping people describe the lives they want and how they want to be supported, and the thinking that underlies the implementation of that support.
  • Establishing criteria for excellence for those who train others in the use of the materials developed and disseminated.
  • Providing support for the creation of best practice and its implementation by individuals and agencies.

To date trainers come from 5 countries – Australia, Canada, India, United Kingdom, United States. We are self-advocates, family members, agency related training personnel, program personnel, administrators, and consultants.

TLCPCP draws from experience to develop materials to assist people in the across issues of disability, illness, and circumstance: developmental disabilities, mental health services, aging, chronic illness, cancer treatment planning; wellness, end of life planning, self-advocacy, helping families help other families, community building, person centered organizational and system development to name a few.

The history of TLCPCP have roots in Essential Lifestyle Planning.

Members of TLCPCP have established a series of standard practices in how Person Centered Thinking skills will be taught. Among these are a 2-Day Introductory Workshop format, a 1-Day Options Counseling or Person Centered Counseling Workshop and Planning Together.

Vision

All people have positive control over the lives they have chosen for themselves.

Purpose

To foster a global community that shares knowledge about supporting people in getting the lives they want. Our focus is on people who do not have positive control or are at risk of losing positive control because of society’s response to the presence of a disability.
